The Eternal Gandhi Museum is an initiative of the Mahatma Gandhi Library (MGL) of Houston. The Museum will be a world-class cultural destination in Houston, TX.
In today’s world, conflict and violence are ever-present. To address the root of these critical problems, it is essential to cultivate the universal values of peace, truth, nonviolence, love, and service through children’s education & community
– This is the Eternal Gandhi Museum’s mission.
Through innovative multimedia exhibits and high-quality educational programs, visitors will learn about the lives and enduring impact of extraordinary leaders of peace, including Mahatma Gandhi as well as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Nelson Mandela, and others. In doing so, they will be inspired to follow their example in their own lives. The first Eternal Gandhi Museum opened in New Delhi in 2005, and Houston will be the only city in the United States where people will be able to experience these powerful exhibits and learning opportunities first-hand.
The Mahatma Gandhi Library has acquired land in southwest Houston and is launching a capital campaign to fund the development of the Eternal Gandhi Museum. The total cost of the initiative is $8.5 million.
The MGL Board of Trustees has committed $1.1 million for the Eternal Gandhi Museum initiative and secured an additional $400,000 in donor commitments. The Aditya Birla Group has graciously offered to donate the multimedia exhibits, valued at $500,000.
Generous commitments from individuals, foundations, and corporations are essential to complete this exciting initiative and open the Museum’s doors to the community in 2019 as the culmination of the Gandhi Sesquicentennial Celebration.
Gandhi epitomized the universal values of peace, truth, nonviolence, love, and service during his life, and his message remains critically important today. The community’s support is essential to keep the flame alive
Thank you, in advance, for your interest and support.
